Confused and Intolerant
I am going to build a BBQ trailer for my Metal Shop Project, it will be made from 2 oil barrels, a hitch I bought for $15, and maybe an old car axle or a trailer axle.

I need 2 oil barrels badly, I cannot find good ones here, just rusted ones for burn barrels or burned ones from burn barrels.

Go to any Farmers Supply store and they should have them.

nope, just tractor supply, and nothin there either.

I need fresh or recently used oil barrels, or something like an old Oil Furnace Tank.

Something with some thickness and size, but not extremely heavy.

Large lay down propane tanks or old air compressor tanks make excellent BBQ's as well.

why do you need two? One of my buddies dad built one as a pig roaster. and they dont need to be perfectly air tight. go to the local oil companies, they might have old ones laying around for cheap

no local oil companies, and scrap yards are 2 hours away in NY and cost a fortune, etc. same old shit about there not bein anything, the reason I was asking for help, lol

And a laydown propane tank may be an idea, but if anyone nearby has one, please tell me, I dont even know if they are legal to sell for what I want it for.

Yes its legal, and they would work awesome for what you are doing, they are a bit heavy but great thickness. Tractor supply might not sell oil barrels but there is someone out there that sells burn barrels. I know in FL you can pick them up painted for 8 bux or less.

burn barrels are usually VERY old oil barrels around here, most of them are old chemical barrels from the coal mining they used to do around here.

We got a propane tank issue/sale store here, might take a stop by sometime and see about an old propane tank. Maybe one with a hole in it.

I will upload some pics of my design.

Yeah the propane tank would be best. THe burn barrels I picked up in florida were for transporting peppers and pickles and stuff. Surely someone has to have them clean, somewhere.

I will look around maybe next weekend, I am going camping with my friends out in my field on Fri-Sat.

Being that you are doing this in a metal shop, why not just build it from scratch? More work obviously, but it would be more of a learning experience. Do all of the supplies come out of your pocket or do they give you an allowance for materials?

you wanna cook food in a barrel that previously held oil and then eat it? am i the only one that thinks that may not be a good idea?

my grandpa has one kind of like your design, but the barrel faces straight back. he used an old boiler for his, works great and can hold an entire pig, plus no carcinogens were ever stored it in (as far as i know)

You guys have a roller at the school shop? Just roll two half rounds and weld the ends on. Seems like things are hard to come by down around you for good scrap, have fun with the build. :icon_thumby:
