Hey guys, i am looking for some info on axles for the dana 44. I have a dana 44 from a 78/79 f150 that I am narrowing to early bronco width. What I need to know is are the 76/77 early bronco outer axles or stub axles the same as the 78/79 f150/bronco? I need to get different axles anyways and just wanted to know what i need to order for the outers.

The u-joints are smaller in the classic bronco axles. If you are narrowing the f-150 axle then just shorten the passenger side. Then you can send the passenger side inner axle shaft to dutchman axles to get it shortened and re-splined. That's the easiest and cheapest way to do it. That's what it did.

Narrow it exactly 6 inches, and send the shaft for cut/respline. If you break it, give bronco graveyard a call for a replacement shaft for $75 (760 joint), if you want to get a complete axle shaft set, they gave for $275 for a 6 piece set(4 shafts and 2 spider 760 joints). For $295, you get the 6 piece set with a lifetime replacement warranty.

Yes the outers are exactly the same spline count/dimensions except for the u-joint is smaller with the EB stuff.

HOWEVER - make sure you get the right LENGTH outer - there are three different ones available.

Cool, that is a good kit. I'd also recommend checking out Nitro brand shafts... one of the local shops sells them and they are supposed to be much better than most of the other brands on the market right now. I believe a set with u-joints was about $560 shipped.

Or you could just do like I did and put RCVs in it and be done forever. :D

Where are you getting this $295 for lifetime warranty axles? Because when I looked I saw more like $459 for the chromoly set with u joints.
Also will an early bronco short side inner work for a full size short side inner?

EB will NOT work for a 78-79 axle. It may work for the earlier high pinion, 77 and earlier. Can't remember for sure.

Oh ok. What about the outers? Will the outers in the early bronco kit work with a 78-79 full size knuckles?

Yep, the only difference between factory outers is the u-joint size (and length in some cases)

I was planing on ordering a chrome Moly axle kit like this one: http://broncograveyard.com/bronco/i-12191N-dana-44-chrome-moly-4340-axle-set-lifetime-warranty-.html
I know I have to shorten the passenger side 6 inches and I believe the drivers side a bit but I just want to make sure the outers were the same between this EB Kit and the 78/79 Kits.

If the wedges are cast you can't narrow the driver side. Just narrow the passenger side. Even if the wedges are welded there is still very little room there.
