Good Afternoon Everybody!

My trans has been making an intermittent noise every so often.

Background- 2009 FX4 Auto, only 37000 on the clock. The truck has been mine since new. Never had any problems.

It sometimes made a very slight squeal when I put it into reverse, I could usually only hear it if I was parked between two cars or right next to a building, windows down stereo off. I attributed it to my mind playing tricks on me and never thought much of it.

Today- I noticed the sound had become a little bit more apparent, and has a slight metallic sound, somewhat like the noise a loose belt would make, but not as loud. The noise is more pronounced in reverse, no noise in neutral or park. I don't think it makes the noise in drive, if it does its barely audible. The funny part is that I can't get it to do it all the time, it comes and goes.

There are no driveability issues, shifts well, no noise while driving, no leaks, or anything. Just curious to get opinions, hoping I don't need a new trans. Kinda driving me nuts. Sorry for running on and on. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.

Nevermind, I am an idiot. I had a buddy sit in the truck while I was outside to listen to it. Was able to duplicate it, turns out it was an exhaust rattle. The exhaust was just barely touching while the engine was under load. (In gear, with the brake on, won’t do it when it’s rolling). So at least I don’t have to tear into the trans when it’s 40 degrees out.
