Well on my 1994 2.3l ranger manual i am having a problem that is making me wanna sell it. With the truck warm or cold, when i press the gas from a stop the engine cuts out, its mainly when the idle is at its lowest "setting",guessing 800-1000. I can sort of get around it by revving it. I have no idea what it is, coilpacks, ignition module, computer??? I really need this solved cause its my dd and i just got a new job
it does need a clutch but i dont think thats the problem. i havent gotten any codes from this problem, i had 224 223

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I am going to start with basics. There are 4 major things that will make an engine run: Air, Fuel, Spark, and Timing. Since it runs any other time I would not think it would not be be Timing. I think you should start with the major cause of problems like that fuel filter and air filter. How long has it been since those have been changed.

Having played with various sensors and such on my 92, I'd say the symptoms seem to indicate a problem with the MAF sensor. Sounds like your computer is having to guess at the amount of air coming in at idle, then compensates at higher RPMs by using predefined values. I've disconnected the MAF on my truck and the result is that the engine will stumble after pressing the accelerator from idle. If you don't hit it just right, the engine dies. I believe I've seen similar symptoms from a failed O2 sensor, but can't swear to it. I'm guessing by your codes that you had a problem with one or both of your coil packs?

223 and 224 are both ignition codes. Start by getting the ICM tested at the local parts store. Have them test it multiple times as they usually pass the first time even if they're working right intermittently. Also test the coils with a multi-meter.

You could also try cleaning the MAF like v8 mentioned. I kind of doubt that's the culprit, but cleaning the MAf is never bad practice and a can of cleaner is only about 5 bucks.
