My 2002 4.0L V6 Ranger 4wd runs great but

So then why do we need speedometers that read twice as fast as the speed limit?

Dunno, the one on my B2 only goes to 85. It's marked in red at 55 which used to be the speed limit.

Only sport cars should have speedo's over 100mph and those should only be utilized on a track.. But you and I both know it doesn't happen that way.

I had my 2001 Ranger up to about 90 a couple winters ago. Found out my grandma was passing and we were visiting friends in the country 40 minutes away.

I should have died that day. 4 inches of snow on the ground truck in 4WD taking 90 degree turns at 40-50mph.

I don't recommend it to anyone.

85 is only 10 MPH over the highest limit, where in Canada highest is 110 kmh, everyone does 120 though, so i really don't need a speedo that says 220 in a truck.

HiHOSLVR... you had a wrx? i had a sti subaru 03 310hp to the wheels....drunk drive hit me and wrecked it :(..what did u have done to yours

No, no, I never had one, but I hear they are sweet. Sorry for your loss.

I think the main reason that we have speedometers going to 120 and beyond on DD's is that they sell (everyone wants to go fast, after all this is America) and considering that insurance and the government also make a killing on the speeding tickets.

I DON'T think this guy needs a WRX or any other fast car. If he's doing 90 mph in a Ranger, can you imagine how fast he would go in one of those cars? What he NEEDS is a Geo Metro or Ford Festiva with a restrictor plate before he kills someone.

To answer the question without judgement, you'll need to chip it with a performance chip, or reprogram it with a programmer. The programmer is the better choice for several reasons although more expensive. The programmer will also read and erase engine codes.

I live in Idaho. I assume you live in the SE corner, like me, since you said I-15.
Faster than 90mph and you run the risk of blowout, loss of vehicle control, and hitting (killing) someone else. A tire or drive line out of balance, a bearing failure, old oil, or any small thing not in top condition, and you could wreck or destroy your engine or trans. Not likely, I agree, but these trucks are not designed for the speed you want.
You are extremely dense if you think these trucks are meant for speeds over 90mph. Please stay off the roads, we have enough idiot drivers on these roads' and you'll keep everybody else safe.

That and the fact there are no speed limits that high.

Not anymore, but there were in the mid-90s.

The speed limit in Montana was "reasonable and prudent" (at least in daylight). Not that these speeds would have qualified in a Ranger, but they might have in a Porsche 911.

But people abused it and it went away.

I had a friend who said that he was doing 110 in a Cavalier (could have been slower, he's been known to exaggerate/lie), but the rear wheel bearing locked up and his wheel fell off at high speeds. Went spinning through some yards, went through a fence, and stopped via. tree.
