I go out this morning to my truck and it cranks and cranks and cranks...

Now in the past the truck has had a slight miss and when it had heavily rained it would take SEVERAL cranks before it started. I figured it was a cracked cap or something simple... Thought i would let it ride and replace it when i did my tune up once it got a little warmer.

so i checked the basics, i could hear the fuel pump when i turned the key, pulled the air filter cover off to make sure i had an absolute clear air path. pressed the schrader valve and had good fuel pressure.

Still no start...

Went to the auto parts store and get my a cap, rotor, plugs, wires, and coil.

Installed everything, still no start...

pulled a plug wire off the cap and put a junk one on with an old spark plug and realized i was still getting no spark...

put the old coil back in and it fired right up...

So i am a little confused, was it my cap rotor wires and plugs? Because obviously I got a bad coil off the shelf...

anyways, it runs PHEW!!!

One time I cleaned as many electrical plug-ins as I could and then it wouldn't start...turns out the plug-in to the coil was bad even though it looked fine. Might try "jiggling" the plug-in around while it's running...when I did that the idle would jump around.

thats a thought, though i did replace the wire set.

oil coil with old wires = spark, no start
new coil with new wires = no spark, no start
old coil with new wires = spark, start

I don't mean the coil to dist cable (wire)....I'm talking about the plugin from the wiring harness to the coil. Might not be your problem but worth checking. I only figured it out by having a friend who does mobile auto electrics and diagnosis put his computer on it.

Check your ecm ground wire at the battery. Make sure it is connected good.
