So, I ran across a ranger in my buddies towing yard and found it was going for scrap...specs are as follow's:

90' excab 4wd
2.9L M5OD
D35/8.8

Now, I was after the Tcase so I took a quick peak under it and there she be! Fixed yokes front and rear and an M5OD shifter, in my mind all is good.....

I flipped the truck over with a loader (way easier then laying in snow in -35*C), sawzalled the driveshafts and pulled the case. Once I brought it back to the shop and pulled my 1354E I began swapping over speedo output, vents, driveshaft leftovers back onto the E case etc. I benched it over my head under the truck and slipped, dropped the case and proceeded to atleast bruise a rib or two I saw 4 numbers that began to make me wonder.....

The case that just knocked the wind out of me, say's 1350 in a series of number in the input housing.....making sure I'm not seeing things or its a random number I check my E case and sure as shit it says 1354.....I figure what the hell, the driveshafts bolt up, the shifter bolts up I'm gonna use it anyways but here's my question....

-it's NOT a highrider truck
-It DOES have fixed yokes

Was this case built from a 1354/1350 pile of parts as a replacement? It's got a bead of RTV on the split so I know it's been apart but I thought for sure that 90' would have a 1354 or the 1350 in that year would have had a slip yoke? Also, should I be worried about it's strength in relation to the 1354 as it's a 5000lb truck on 35's locked front and rear?

I have a HighRider T-case in my truck and it's not a HighRider.

Point being is I installed it. Maybe thats what happened in your case??

The strength difference is almost non existent between the 1350 and 1354 other than the double cardon joint on the front driveshaft. Mine is defiantly smaller than the early 90's Explorer style.

I remember there being some discussion on here a little bit ago about some 1350's that came with fixed outputs F/R. I'm also pretty sure there isn't much strength difference (if any between the two). I'd run it.

If it has a long snout on the front output similar to a slip-yoke 1350, it's a 1350.

If it has a totally normal front output, it's a 1354.

You might be seeing what is an early 4-planet 1354, the face of the input bearing plate did say 1350 on these, but you'll notice the case itself says 1354 elsewhere.

Good to know, and thanks guys. I'm gonna say its junkies third idea as it definately says 1350 on the input plate. It's identical to the 1354E I pulled besides the obvious manual shift and it's got a plug of some sort above the front out put in the case that the E version didn't have, no idea whats it's for...any ideas?

I pulled a electric transfer case out of an explorer to replace one in a ranger. It had the double cardan front shaft, but the case said 1350. Tag identified it as a 1354.

For the 4x4 indicator lights, my B2 had the plug that plugged into the manual t-case when I put it in and the dash lights worked.

I figured as much, but the donor truck never had it hooked up so I overlooked it. Looks like I'll be making another trip back to it to grab the truck side of the harness.

What's happening with the 1354E that you pulled out of your truck? I know a guy who needs one :D

No prob. I can likely find one at a yard here for fairly cheap but I'm not really interested in going out there in the middle of winter to pull it myself.

i have a stock 94 ranger transfer for sale. its the 1354 i believe
