*update: some images might be getting replaced because im using a free public photo sharing service, anything that dont look like a ranger/302 was probly overwritten

well, i killed the 2.3... drove home on 2 cylinders, pulled head and found out that theres a crack in the cooling jacket in the block, so i was debating what motor to stick in, eventually i decided on a vortec 350.. long story short, couldnt find a good vortec so i found a 302 roller block and gt40p heads outa a late model explorer at pull a part..

the donor had 120,000 on the clock and looks like it was well maintained, why such a pristine car was at pull a part is beyond me when im trying to keep a pieced together ranger running... the car was just put on the yard and after pulling the valve cover, i decided to grab it. nothing like a hot day in july to be yanking out a 302..

The future recipient is a 1986ish pieced together ranger with a 2.3 and 5spd 2wd.. why would i put such a nice motor in a beater.. lets just say its the wow factor im after..

initial tear down of the 302 made $184 for it including core charge a heck of a deal, still plenty of crosshatching and almost no crud in there, there were some exhaust valve that werent seal correctly but a valve job and a little porting cured that, i can now fill the chambers up with gas and it'll hold it till it evaporates away.. and now i have learned to hate lapping valve by hand..

now, ima let the pictures do the rest the talking..

This is going to be a nice build. The engine looks nice! Looks like it took at least 4 trucks to make that one. Gotta love those Pull A Parts!

going to watch this, what are your plans for the exhaust manifolds/headers?

yep, good ol PAP, only 2 blocks from where i work lol

as far as exhaust, im still deciding on shorties, exploders or cast iron manifolds

That engine is so clean and detailed it makes that water pump pulley look outta place. What type of paint did you use for the oil pan?

:yahoo: It dodged the chevy bullet!

Nothing wrong with a patch work truck. I think that's what my 86 is going to be as well.

Hope I find that my block looks as good as yours does when the time comes to open it up. It's a 98 with a few more miles.

So that's why I can't find any Ranger parts when I go up there, you done picked them clean.

oem explorer adapter, was curious if it would fit because i had manual steering, answer is no... so i got the advance adapters relocation kit.. gona keep my eyes out for an adapter of an econoline van with a 460 big block in it, rumoured those work too, i dont like having hoses hanging out with my engines "life blood"
