So I just recently acquired a 2002 ford ranger with what they said is a bad engine it has a 3.0 and I want go put my engine in it from the 1999 ford ranger 3.0 but the upper intake is different, is that engine swap possible?

yes its possible. swap the external parts to make it identical.
before you do anything check the cam sync unit, pull it out to inspect the drive gear.

what is bad on the 2002?
does it turn over by hand? by starter?
check the cam symc drive gear on that too. if the teeth are sheered off the engine is gone.

The guy said it sounds like something is beating off of the oil pan I haven't heard it run yet as it isn't getting fuel "Pump not engaging"

Check the oil for shavings...if the oils clear fire it up and see.

Banging noises from the oil pan area are generally always bad...but you might het lucky and it be a motormount thats lost its rubber or something.

does the oil pan have a big dent in it???:icon_rofl:

in all seriousness oil pan noises are a very bad thing. the term "rod knock" may well apply to it.

2wd or 4wd? where in Ohio? I'm in Toledo.

You can use any Ranger 3.0l OHV or Mazda B3000 engine from 1995 thru 2008(last year) to swap into any other year Ranger/Mazda with 3.0l OHV

As said just use the block and heads and swap over intakes to match your years wiring/plumbing
You can use a 1991-1994 Ranger 3.0l OHV but need a different timing chain cover and crank balancer for crank sensor

3.0l OHV Taurus/Sable car engines can also be used, but you need to change the head gaskets for proper cooling

While ANY engine is out, change the rear main seal

On the 3.0l also change the front timing cover gasket, common coolant leak point, front main seal is part of that as well
3.0l has a metal elbow on the front of lower intake, it can rust out, and hard to change with accessory brackets installed as its a threaded fitting
New oil pump is never a bad idea or new oil pan gasket, but judgment call
