I have a 4.0 computer but it's for an auto tranny and I have a manual tranny. I was reading in the tech spot about needing to hook up the neutral switch to the computer in order for the auto computer to work. What does this mean? My 3.0 is a manual tranny already btw.

I can't help you on this, but I don't think you really need to start a new thread for each question.

You may have to get a tuner to delete the auto trans functions from the PCM. That way, it's not freaking out trying to control something that's not there. If your truck, or the donor truck had PATS, the tuner whould be able to delete those functions as well.

Or, just get a PCM from a manual trans.

And I agree with Josh. Instead of posting a hundred different threads with questions here and in the 3.0 section, just start a single thread in the engine swap forum. It will be much easier to follow than a bunch of different threads in different forums.

Yeah I'm sorry guys these questions pop up in my head separately, otherwise I would have.. Like if I thought of them all at once. But could I possibly take whatever sensor senses the gear in the auto tranny and then lock it into drive so that way I don't have the 3000 rpms limit or does the computer just know without a sensor somehow?

Well figured out that issue. Somehow I found a 98 4.0 with a 5 speed at the junkyard. Got the computer and wire harness, only issue is the tail end of the harness behind the purple connector was cut. I'm assuming though that I can just take my 3.0s purple plugin piece and plug it in like that? Any thoughts? The ranger I got had the abs speed sensor I'm pretty sure because the tranny had no other plug in beside the reverse light plug in. I also noticed the autos have a grey and a black connector on the back of the engine, this manual one only had the black connector and if you look down into it there were only 1/3 of the prongs in it. I'm assuming the grey connector is just for the auto tranny sensors and the rest of the black connector as well. Can I just leave the grey connector hanging and tape it off since I got a manual PCM?

I didn't take the engine wire harness because there were some wires cut up there and i figured my auto harness would work just fine.
