I have a 2wd that I'm thinking of shoving a D30 under and am curious as to what people think would be the minimum lift required over a stock 4wd height while retaining a reasonable amount of bump travel. The truck is to be used as a pavement pounder so no serious wheeling, just hacking around on some fire roads at the most, I mainly want the 4wd for the winter.
I'm thinking that I could get away with something like a 2 inch lift over stock 4wd. Would diff->oilpan or axle tube->frame be the limiting factor? seems like the diff would be the issue.
EDIT: I want to keep it fairly low so I can run 31's without it looking silly since anything past that size begins to get ridiculously expensive.
