mensa members?

Resume' bullet:

>Arrogant ass.

I carried a 4.0 in community college learning how to use pop rivets and they sent me a brochure.

Groucho Marx:
I sent the club a wire stating, PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT ME AS A MEMBER.

Resume" bullet= Decent job.
If you want to do it don't ask here. A lot of people have problems with the educated. Do what you think is right and will help you in the long run. Good luck on the test. It's not very easy.

I meant using Mensa as a bullet.

I'm all about education. Mensa doesn't mean anything except that you want to be in a club where the members think they are smarter than everyone else.

If someone can put anything on a resume' that sets them apart from the next applicant is a step in the right direction. It's all about window dressing.

It's not about window dressing. I would be surprised if a professional resume' service would recommend putting something like that in there.

In all seriousness, take the test because it's probaby interesting. But ask someone that hires people a lot if that is a good idea.

I would never add Mensa to a average resume' unless you were looking to join a think tank.
Let your work experience and and personality win you the Job.

The head of the company my like to see it but, The owners don't interview and many of the supervisors may not hire some on that is smarter than they are in fear of losing their job to you. A good supervisor shouldn't care but human nature is to protect your self

finally some good advice, the real reason i was thinking about it, is because its based of your IQ score, and your IQ is based of of how well you take in information crunch the numbers and come up with an answer. if you can do that better then 98% of the people out there wouldn't it make you stand out,
if it comes with an arrogance tag then i kinda don't want it. i try and be humble and have my attitude and work ethic speak for me.

My wife generally has a stack of resume's with her. She hires mostly electrical and mechanical engineers with PhDs, but an occasional masters and a rare bachelor. She has to pay them from her budget and anybody she hires is a big risk to her that is going to take 3 years to get rid of if they don't work out. She doesn't have time to hold someone's hand--she's interested in what you have done because that is what you can do. She wold be annoyed at anything on your sheet that isn't pertenent--and it better not be your autobiography and she doesn't care if you were the best knife sharpener in cub scout troop 147. And at the interview she is going to ask you very tough questions, and a lot of them, about your thesis and about controls theory and you will be doing some problems of some type. And she will also send you to other people that you may be working with and they will also ask you tough questions because nobody wants to be burdened by you--or waste time arguing with you all the time. Everyone wants the smartest and most capable people working with them. You will not be rejected because you are too smart. But the appearance of arrogance is something to avoid because you are going to have to work with people that are also brilliant. From my second hand experience over the dinner table, I would recommend you only put things on there that matter to the job you are applying for, and be able to speak about what you do have on there and don't fluff anything because the interviewer may go right after the fluff to see what you will say.

I have been a supervisory role in several jobs I have had over the years. I was involved in the hiring process and did interviews with hundreds of people and read through what seems to have been a million resume's.
A well written professional resume' is what catches your eye along with the cover letter. Just the pertinent information pertaining to the job is all that should be included in them along with GOOD references. I always called any and all references they listed. Other Fluff would cause me to toss them to file 13.
Good paper is always a plus on a resume'.
Just because people score high on IQ tests does not mean it can be applied in to a job or life. Some of the most inept people I know were Mensa members at one time or another.
I am dyslexic and the written words and Numbers are a chore to convey I was always upfront at the first interviews about my weakness. This was one of the questions I always asked strengths and weakness's. Weakness's should always outweigh the strengths this was one of the tools I used to determine whom would get a second interview.
Good Luck with you Career hunt.

Mensa doesn't mean much, neither does IQ really, it's not accurate. All it means is that you could fill in some bubbles. One test on paper is not a measure of someone's overall intelligence. You want to stand out in the job hunt? List real life accomplishments. Also talking to a recruiter about how to make a good resume helps too.

My dumbass stepbrother made it into Mensa and he only has an Iq of 130 so I have no amibition to be part of that group besides offroad clubs ae way more fun and you can USE your smarts to build a truck lol. I still stand by booksmarts are about the single most useless thing to have my brother is crazy booksmart and what has that got him? A shitty job b/c he has no common sense.

The only conceivable reason to join Mensa would be to make sure all those non-members know that you think you are smarter and better than they are. If they mistake your opinion and self-confidence for arrogance then that is their problem. Unless, of course, it interferes with your getting or keeping a job and then it would become your problem. But hey, what's the point of being a member unless you advertise it?
