I have an 03 XLT 3.0 and am putting a 4 inch lift on it. I was just curious what the max size tire I could put on it. I am thinking about getting some new wheels and am looking, I just want to know where my max is so I dont go too big and scrub like a mofo haha

So friggin big

I’ve found it’s less about the height and more about the inside RUBBING!!!! :D

44,s. 4 in lift and 3 in body lift with.....

Wheel offset will make a difference....fiberglass fenders will allow some serious tire.

The actual lift may dictate potential depending on manufacturer or style.

There is not a hard rule for open questions the require specifics.

But with 3rd gens 34-35 depending on actual tires and wheels are fairly easy.

The bigger you go without a re-gear the less fun your truck is to drive

35 inch. With 3.0 non super charged...

456 to 488

What gear ratio do yall recommend?
Depends on tire size and how you will use the truck.

If you go 33” tires, I would say 4.10 ratio, minimum. 4.56 would feel better. But if you do mostly highway driving, you may want to stay with the 4.10 gears.

There is a chart in our tech section that relates tire diameter, gear ratio and rpm at a set speed. That should give you an idea of what to aim for.

There is another article with pictures of various Ranger models with different lift and tire size combinations. It’s not all-inclusive. But gives a good starting pint to see how things fit.

I have a 93 with a 6” suspension lift and 35” tires on 15” rims with the original Ranger offset. I had to trim the fenders a good bit to make it work. But I’m happy with it. 4.56 gears, but would prefer 4.88.

Auto or manual matters too. Manual transmission trucks can get away with less gearing than an automatic. My automatic truck has factory 4.10s with 27 inch tires, if I went to 33s I wouldn't even consider using less than 4.56 or 4.88s.
