Is there a difference in the master cylinders for a 4x4 and a 2wd as well as from an ABS to non abs one.

I have a 90 2wd ranger that sits on an 87 4x4 frame. I has the 90 engine the 87 tranny and drive line. The master cylinder is from the 90 as it has the port for the ABS connector. The rest of the brakes are from the 87 and I keep blowing out the wheel cylinders. Could the difference in master cylinders be the cause.

the electrical connection on the master cylinder isnt for ABS, its just a fluid level sensor that makes the dash lights come on when the fluid is low.

if you have the master cylinder for the '87, id give it a try and see if that fixes your problem.

there are many different master cylinder options through the years. ABS/non ABS, 9"/10" drums, power assist/manual. any number of these could lead to too much or not enough pressure being sent to the rear brakes.
