Has anyone converted their manual transfer case to electric? If so, what all was involved?

I'm doing a V8 swap with an AOD trans in my 87 BII 4X4. Was a manual trans and manual transfer case. Can't find shift linkage and bezel for a 4X4 automatic so thought I'd take a look at changing the trans case to electric, if possible.

Thanks for any feedback.

No, no easy way to change transfer case from manual to electric or visa versa, the shift rods are at different locations.

You would have a BW1350 transfer case, and with V8 power you would really want a BW1356, used in Broncos, and F-series trucks with the AODs
They came in manual or electric

You need the 4WD Control module, dash board buttons and wiring harness
And electric shift motor if it doesn't come with transfer case

Pictures of module here: http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/4wd_control_module.html

Shift motor here: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/how-to-rebuild-4x4-shift-motor.123542/
You can see the difference of shift rod location in above

Dash buttons are a set, a unit, they are a resistor set that tell control module what position Driver wants for transfer case, 2WD, 4high or 4low, there was no Neutral selection with electric shift.

IMO, I would stick with manual shift transfer case no matter what :)
There is a thread here on building shift linkage: http://www.explorerforum.com/forums...the-shift-linkage-for-a-manual-t-case.280143/

Pictures are gone because of photobucket changes but you may be able to get some info
And video here of that linkage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aneUYMyZ0SA

Thanks for all the info! I'll check local salvage yards to see what's available.

I'd prefer to stick with manual shift; however, finding an automatic trans shifter with manual TC linkage has proven to be virtually impossible. I've posted wanted ads on TRS, Craigslist, local and regional papers, etc.

Oh well, thanks again.
