So the 5 speed on my 93 2.3 finally crapped out at 245k miles. I picked up a used trans from a wrecked 99 2.5 with 100k miles and got it installed today. I swapped tailshafts and pulled the snap ring and output shaft plastic gear off the old trans and put it on the new one (the new trans still had a groove for the snap ring!). Get it all together and take it for a spin. Everything is groovy EXCEPT that my speedometer no longer works right. Sometimes it'll show accurate speed, and sometimes it drops down to like, 25 mph and hangs out there for a while. If I go into neutral it eventually climbs back up where it should be, but when I load it again it will do it again (eventually). What am I not doing right? It's imperative that I find a solution as my gas gauge doesn't work (float is bad I guess, never ohmed it and figured I'd replace it when the pump dies) and I use a tripminder to track my fillups.
