making the 4.0 ohv ecu stand alone

I will try plugging directly and see how it goes, many thanks for your help, you can see this is new territory for me, first time being brave enough to deal with electronics, old school mechanic here.

Well the US Rangers went to OBDII pretty early in 95, and the wiring didn't change any for 96, so it really should be a matter of installing the4.0 harness and having everything work, unless it cam out of an Explorer.

it came from an explorer, what can be the differences in this case?

The biggest differences is that one the Ranger the wires for the fuel pump and rear lights run out through the firewall connector and back along the frame, and on the Explorer they run under the carpet inside the cabin. It wouldn't be hard to move the existing wires on your 4-cylinder harness over to the 4.0 harness.

just to have it clear, when you talk about the harness, you mean the engine harness or the rest coming out from the 42 pin connector?

well, find that I was not getting + to the coil, already connected and has spark but no injector signal. have just realized that this 4.0 is from a 1995 explorer, has CPS but 60 pin computer connector, is this ok? from what I have read, with CPS they use the 104 pin connector.

Also, when powering the system, the CEL goes on for a very short blink, then goes off, I am using a small led light, can it be some kind of self protecting protocol due to the light resistance?(too little). Fuel pump relay cycles ok.
