So I have been wanting to do up my exhaust for my ranger for awhile. recently I was at Pick n Pull, and noticed a 97 mustang with a cat back MAC exhaust kit, it foes from single in to 2 mufflers and obviously 2 tail pipes. I looked at it and it looks like it should fit under my ranger. This is the setup that is on the mustang. http://shop.macperformance.com/MAC-Ford-Mustang-V6-38L-1999-2004-2-Cat-Back-System-TK3849.htm

I know it will be short and Ill have to get it modified to fit but aint nothing I can do. lol.

So I listened to a few clips on youtube with some 3.8L mustangs with this particular exhaust on it. sounds pretty good.

Would I be correct in assuming that the tone and loudness of it will be pretty much the same on my 4.0 OHV seeing as the displacement is pretty similar?
It is 2.5" diameter.

Any thoughts?

I've had them on my Mustang for about 12 years now. I personally think they sound better than a Flowmaster. I get compliments all the time on the sound of my car. However.... mine is a 5.0 so that may or may not be what you're after for a comment.

IMHO, the sound would be closer to a match if you listened to a 4.0 Mustang with the Flowpath's. The 3.8 is an Essex motor, and the Cologne motors have a slightly different (better) sound to me.

EDIT: Here's a clip of one:

Well even though your mustang is a 5.0 the comment was appreciated.

looked up some videos with 4.0 mustangs and actually found a clip of a ranger with a MAC exhaust. although he does have his cats gutted so it is a bit more throaty and in my opinion too loud.

Ill be leaving my cats in(intact) so I expect it to be toned down a bit.
