m5od-r1 swap question?

hey I need some confirmation on swap I am about to start. I have a 1991 2.3L 2wd (m50d-r1) that I want to convert to a 4x4 trans, my donor trans is outta a 91 4.0 4x4 (m50d-r1). are the internals the same between the two and would just swapping the tail shaft and extension housing be my answer? any in depth details of this swap would be greatly appreciated. thank you

I think there is some difference in the gearing but not 100% sure. but the rest should be the same. I had the guts taken out of one for a 3.0 with the output from a 4.0 and used behind a 2.9
