Low range does not light up on the switch, nor does low range engage whatsoever.

Speedo also does funny floating things sometimes, but usually is on 0 mph no matter what.

Seriously? Nobody had ANY idea why low range doesn't engage??

Well, more information to work with would make it a whole lot easier for us to provide answers about your issue...

Specifically, have you tried any of the tests already outlined in the troubleshooting section of the FAQ Sticky post at the top of the forum here? (testing the controller module, checking the shift motor for lubrication, a broken stop pin bushing, etc.)

Does anything happen such as the low range light blinking at all when you try to shift? Do both lights go out entirely?

Answers to these would help. :icon_thumby:

Your speedometer sounds like a separate issue (broken cable or a stripped speedo gear maybe), as the two systems are not tied together in any way other than that the speedo cable drive comes off the rear of the transfer case.

I had a similar problem with my 1998. I wasn't doing it right. In or out of low range requires foot on the brake, transmission in neutral. Yours may be the same. Might be as simple as that.
