Looking for a lower end security system

Push and hold for 2 sec, but you burn through remote batteries, and if your doing running around(getting in and out of your truck 20 times) it becomes a huge PITA! I've driven show cars, and after one day you just want to walk up grab a handle and get in. Even when i had the remote set up on my Sunfire i hated having to wait for the trunk to pop, i'd just use the key.

ok well scratch the no handles then lol.... but shaved door locks seems pretty tight, and seems like it would be like a head scratcher if someone ever wanted to break into my truck lol.

obviously they could still do it with relatively no effort... but if it deters just one thief, it has served it's purpose!! kinda like how some people just install a blinking light on their dash, even if it's not hooked up to anything lol.

people add the blinking light all the time. some cars come with it anyway. an idea i kinda laugh about.... big dog in the truck, then just have a sign on the car saying "car alarmed, horns are broken but windows roll down automaticly".

lol i like that.

yeah i know a few cars that come with it, and so now it's not even an indicator if they have a legitimate alarm system or not.

well i was given a guys name, he is my friends cousins husband, and he said:

"i can do a low buck combo unit, prolly cost you somewhere around $225 -$250, that would get you remote start, alarm, and keyless entry, 2 keyfobs, and 1000ft range. let me know when your ready."

Seems great to me... Does brand matter THAT much? Think I should go with the remote start? What about the keyless entry? (is keyless entry door actuators with shaved door handles?)

Should I see how much just a security system would be with a 2 way remote?

he has some really sick ass stuff that he has done... here's some pics

some names dont matter some names really matter. keyless doesnt remove the handels just unlocks your doors

okay, i might skip the remote start aspect though... sometimes it's nice to have a too hot or too cold truck to complain about lol.

also, does keyless entry work with manual locks? or would I have to switch to power locks?

I have an auto tranny, and how would I go about getting power locks? Is it easier to get power windows at the same time as well? Then I would need somewhere to control the windows and locks from, is it possible swap doors from a truck that would have these controls? If not the whole door (since I have relatively fantastic body condition) just the interior door panels?

okay well the aftermarket kits must be like a lot of the stories i've heard about after market sun roofs...

expensive to buy, and problematic.

i guess I can stick with just manual windows, less wires anyway so that I can wire some components in my doors eventually...

Any like really good key features I should look for in an alarm system?

Like the starter kill, nusiance, etc?

Remote start will only work if you have a auto tranny. If you have manual locks now you will need to install power locks to have a keyless entry.

These are two good alarms that have the features that you would possibly like. This is just to give you an example of whats out there without spending alot of money.

Hope this helps!

lol haha its funny you say that you cant have remote start for a manual, but that viper 5901 that youlinked that retails for $600 starts manual cars. along with connecting to my iphone, so not only can i start my car with the one you linked i can do it from any were in the world no matter how far i am away. and it will tell me how warm is it in my car. 2000 miles away.

being fully honest thats the brand new model i put in my car you were drooling over....... nothing personal i dont think your up for that task of installing something at complicated. it took my electric guru from my old employer (which was a car audio shop) about 7 hours to install it. i didnt even try and install it if that tells you anything.

moving on the auto kill is good to have. if the alarm is triggered you cant start your car.

If your referring to me installing the viper on my ranger your wrong. I am perfectly satisfied with my Alpine alarm that I have been using for 11 years. It was one of thier top of the lines in 98-99. I did not install my alarm I had my friends stereo shop do it and it took a full day to install the alarm and pager brain. I had my whole dash taken apart to hide both brains way up in the dash instead the shady basic install that most shops do. No offense taken, but I am fully able to do anykind of electrical work like that. I just chose to have my friend's shop do it instead so I got a warranty. I bought both setups from his shop.

How would a alarm start a vehicle with a manual tranny? I know how they an auto. Since you need to have the clutch pushed in to start most vehicles anyhow. Since alot of people put thier vehicle in gear when they park it, that would be funny to have your alarm start your and its in gear and it jumps forward and hits you or something else.

The link I posted for the viper from ebay none of them are close to 600, look again.

as far as the skill level in install "viper 5901" the one i got, i dont think baxtej44 is up to the task no offense i didnt even try it.

as far as the price, go to the web site and see how much they cost, call a dealer. i payed $450 cause i used to work there but idk how there going for that much with out taking a loss. but what ever a deal is a deal. power to you. cause that viper is a bad ass alarm.

starting a car with a manual..... easy has a break and e brake sensor. push the break to stop. release the foot break; set e brake. then you have 15 sec to set remote start. and 30sec to lock your doors, as a safety if the car is unlocked for any reason or alarm triggered, the auto start is killed. so there is no possibility someone put it in gear. it seems like a lot of work at first. but its just a habit now, dont even think about it.

Motion sensor are way to sensitive even if they are turn down low.

x2 the snow keeps setting mine off, thy say there learning but i think mine is mental challenged,

What should one expect to pay for installation of a fairly simple alarm?
