Well my sub install is at another stand still... make this number 3 i think? :annoyed: anyway... I plan on replacing my broken slider with a solid pane soon, but it might end up being spring time I'm not for sure yet.

But I also want to add a supplementary lower end security system. Mostly just so I don't have people trying to get into my truck.

Any recommendation on the brand, features, prices, etc?

I think like motion detectors are out of the picture lol, and I wouldn't mind having a remote to be able to unlock/lock it... however with having manual locks can this work?

If you can find an older Viper HV350 you'll be set, wiring is simple, it is a bomb-proof system. And you can add keyless entry very easily too, just need 2 relays, and 1-2 lock actuators depending if you want both doors to have it or not.

EDIT: After looking them up the new 350s are not too bad either, they're still using the old brain. It's getting harder and harder to find name brand alarms on ebay, so if you want something other then Viper you may have to go local.

there "vipers" lower end stuff. same companies, just different name and missing a few bells/whistles

both viper and avital are made by directed

is it worth it to have a 2way remote? it seems awful nice...

what about that? it says it's never even been installed.

2 way is nice, but if you work or live in a concrete building, your wasting money.

That link is of an older model, mine has been installed in 3 different vehicles, and it still works flawlessly.

blackwidow67: no offense, but your better off spending the 40-90 bucks on a big dog to leave in your truck, rather then a generic el-cheapo alarm.

flyingbrick, none taken, but ive used the ones jcwhitney sells and theres nothing wrong with them.

they dont have the gizmos and the bells and whistles, but they do there job.

but i suppose there is better to choose from.

so what happens if your key locks are shaved, and your remote or your system stops working for some reason?

also, there obviously would be a hole where the key lock was, can that be patched with fiberglass?

Well Baxtej on the "newer" trucks there is always the "RBV lock trick." (if anyone does not know what it is for some reason PM me)

well mine doesn't classify as a "newer" truck.... does it? if it does, lord what is a 2009 truck then? haha.

That would not even help. When aftermarket power locks are installed and hooked up to the alarm your key locks on the door is disconnected like mine are my keys were worthless. I did not want my key locks messed with some A**hole trying to get into my Ranger by sticking a screwdriver or dentpuller into the lock and screwing up my door. I had them removed and holes were filled. I had the back of my door handles cover from the inside and unlock door trick will work on my Ranger. As for the remote situation, I have 2 remotes and each key chain has 1 and I carry both of them with me at all times. So if 1 battery goes dead I have the other remote to use. When my alarm is armed the doors lock and disarm the alarm the doors unlock.

can you fill the left over holes with fiberglass? or do you have to remove the lock, grind down the area, weld in new steel, smooth it out, prime it, and then paint it to match? or just fiberglass?

I should have said "newer body style" 93/94+.

You can try, but if you do it from the front you'll never get to look right or be flush with the door skin. If you glass it from the back side of the door you might be able to make it work, but it's a LOT of very fine bondo work to smooth it out.

okay well can the locks remain there for a bit? Since I don't like to get hit with all of the money at once, I wanted to try and break it up a bit... although I love the sound of no locks, but would it be better to shave my door handles at the same time too? Then I could just have them do the door handles at the same time?

I think that would make my truck very unique...

maybe i could just wait until I have enough for an entire paint job... Which i want really bad haha.

Shaved handles on a DD? you are going to hate life my friend. I'd sooner hunt junk yards till you find a set of handles you really like from an older car and have them fitted to the ranger doors.

ok i'm ignorant on the situation, isn't it just a button to press (on a remote?) to pop the doors open?

sorry if it's a dumb idea! haha.
