Looking at truck for transmission parts! Need urgent help!

I'm looking at a 1998 explorer sport 2wd 4.0 OHV 5 speed manual. I need the transmission to swap into a 2002 sport trac 4.0 sohc. Can I use this transmission?

No, 4.0l OHV and 4.0l SOHC have different trans bolt pattern, but they are close, I think only 5 out 8 holes line up though

7 of the 8 bolts line up. I've got an OHV 4r55e bolted up to a SOHC with only 7 bolts and haven't had a problem (except for the fact I drive "aggressively" and blow transmissions up.)


Yes, the trans SHOULD work ... Watch out in 2002 Ford used some oddball 26 spline clutch and dual mass flywheel on a short run of Explorers (approx 1000 IIRC). If you have that, you'll need an new clutch and flywheel to work with the 23 spline trans.

I don't know if they even put that setup into Sport Tracs or if it was limited to regular Explorers only.
