lock-right help

So you cannot get the cross pin out to get the c clips off of the ends of the shaft?

It was a misunderstanding and the 8.8 swap was an example. Like mentioned above if you only need the lock-rite do what you gotta do to get it out. Honestly I can't think of a good way if the rest is junk. Keep the leftovers for scrap.

Did you get the cross pin out? The pictures for that in the tech library are bad. The way you get an axle free is to find the lock screw in the carrier that holds the cross pin in and remove it. Then pull the cross pin. Looking in there, you will see the ends of the axles--they aren't free, but you can see them. To get that the C-clips, you need to take the little springs and pins out with a little screwdriver so the couplers can be moved apart. The c-clip comes out from between the coupler teeth on each side.

If you are seeing it for the first time, it doesn't look possible.

I'm not clear on why you can't so the above steps.

cross pin is out i can push the broken axle shaft in but i do not see the c-clip and i cannot push the axle out... I think I may not be pushing the broken axle shaft in enough to get to the c-clip though... but once the axle is pushed in enough does the clip come out in between the two halves of the locker or the slot that is directly behind the two small round holes???

Will what you're saying about the springs makes a lot of sense... won't be home til friday afternoon to see whats going on with the springs... anything else i should be aware of while i'm in there???

You should be looking into the hole in the middle of the carrier. I wish I had taken good pictures when I did my swap so I could post them. When you pull the diff cover off obviously the carrier is right in front of you(not trying to be a dick just walking through it so you might have a better idea). When you rotate the carrier there is a big hole in the middle of it. When you look in you should see the cross pin. After you do the previously mentioned steps to remove the cross pin you should be able to look in the hole and see the very tips of the axles. Push the ends of the axle towards the center(wheels to diff) to give you access to the clips. They are just at the ends and fit in a groove on the axle. This is what keeps the axle from just sliding out of the housing. You can push the clip off with your finger or a screwdriver(I have a detroit locker so no springs or other nonsense). The clip should slide right off without any effort at all. Once the clip is off pull the axle out.

I'm making what I'm sure is an incorrect assumption that a detroit will be the same as other lockers. If you still need help I could pull my cover off and try to get some good pictures to make this easier.

A lockright is more like a complicated jigsaw puzzle, it only comes apart in one specific order. If any part of that order isn't or can't be done, it's not coming out at all.

I have the cross pin removed so the next step is to remove the springs and pins so i can get to the c-clips then???
