Is it worth it doin' the port&polish on the 2nine?Don't want to hear just drop in a 4.0,I'm happy with the engine I have but would like just a lil' more power out of it.Does cleaning up(smoothing) the throttle body help out.I bought a cherry '88 SC 4x for $1650,now is the throttlebody on my '87 bigger than the
'88,if so I want to swap it out. They look about the same size and I read on here the '87 is bigger, just wanted to know if that's correct or not and is it worth getting headers, pacesetter carries them,

Thanks,

Travis:headbang:

throttle body wont do anything, sorry. at wide open throttle, it is flowing way less than its maximum amount. than what its capable of flowing. port and polish is free, its worth doing. dont know if it will help or not. headers will do the most, it will help keep the exhaust pulses in their own little tube, not a common chamber (exhaust manifold) where they interfere with each other. the exhaust pulses will then help scavenge the cylinder better. even then, dont expect miracles. everyone will hate me for saying this, but gut the cat. engines dont like backpressure, thats a myth. the challenge with these engines is you dont need more fuel, you need more air.

you can always spray it.

Thanks,I hear different things about the headers,I had'em on my old K5 and they seemed alright but it was also a bigger truck(bigger engine bay-less heat). The port'n'polish I'd like to try, next time I'm down at Disneyland I'm gonna grab up another manifold and start from there. As far as the cats',wish I could,I'd rather remove'em.Again thanks.:headbang:

The question is..where do you want this power?

P&P and headers can help...but for the most part only in the upper RPM's.. and the 2.9 is not a rev happy motor.

You'd be better of regearing the axles to a lower ratio IMO

your in cali eh? man your screwed with cats cause of the retarded smog laws. best thing you can do is port n polish and headers, the idea is to make air flow freely. one the things id do is remove the square air clearer box and stick the air intake hose to the hole in the grille were the old one hooked up and find a way to fit an air cleaner in it. any motor with emission control systems loose power an gas mileage. you basicly sticking dirty hot air back in the engine as the emission systems work by reuseing some the air in the exhuast to reduce emissions. lowering ur air temp helps, so mabey wrap ur intake and exhuast with heat shielding wrap. there are a bunch of things that can be done, if ur willing and have the time
