I'm looking to give my 1998 4.0 ford ranger a lift kit and i have no idea where to start. Some input on brands and heights would be greatly appreciated! I don't want to go to high just enough to put 31in tires on it. i was looking at 2.0 12in king coilovers and long travel, but i am i poor college student and am unable to fork over that kind of cash right now.

Are you running a 2wd truck or a 4x4? With a 4x4 your only real options are a PA bodylift, or the expensive superlift. You can easily crank the bars to fit 31's or 33's. With a 2wd though... I wouldn't know where to start

If you have coil springs a spacer kit or taller coils will work great. You can run a rear add-a-leaf (or lift blocks, but don't go over 2 inches there). The truck will sit nice and you can run 31's very easy or go a bit taller. You can buy all this on Ebay for a decent price.

The cheapest method that you have will be to get body lift. However, if you are a 4x4 you should just be able to crank your tbars some to get an additional 2-3" of lift.

On a side note, if you are a 4x4 you shouldn't need a lift to fit 31s.

Google images will give you an Idea of what it will look like with different lifts and tires I have a 99 2wd and went with a 3" body lift with 31" tires could go much bigger but I wanted a 4x4 look with out the extra weight and cost, keep a balanced look and the body lift with better sway bars will keep it handling good, it was very easy to do cause my truck is pretty rust free,
