how should i do my intake on my v8 swap?

i did a chevy 350 swap into my 1988. but it i set the engine so far back that a regular round air filter hits the firewall.

so i am looking for inspiration to put an alternative intake on the top of the carburetor. so if you guys could post up what you have done with your intakes it would help with my ideas.

i was thinking something like this:

but would it be worth it to route it to be able to pick up cold air instead of hot air coming through the rad? maybe into a couple air-boxes?

what are your suggestions?

you could box against the two holes in the rad support, there's one on either side of the rad on my 86.

thanks thats a good idea but my current radiator is so wide that it goes pretty much from the washer bottle to the battery

and with my 230psi of compression it will run pretty hot to begin with so swapping the rad is not an option

i really like that idea, just concerned that one mud-puddle offroad and i may have some problems...........water-crossings faw-getta-bow-tit
but do you think it will really be a problem? maybe build simple boxes under the fender wells to keep the majority off of the filters and sticking to them?

Mount an oval air cleaner so it's like this on top of the carb.....

hmm, you know, you could punch a hole in the cowl from inside the engine bay and get your air there, that would also take care of the problem with water crossings.

heptofite you are right, a lot of early race cars used air from the cowl. That is a low pressure area and will force cool air into the breather.
