2000 Mazda B4000, I am thinking about getting larger tires when these wear out, what is the largest tire you would run with stock axles? I will re-gear them accordingly, I am just curious what is the breaking point with the stockers. What upgrades can you make to the stock D35 and 8.8 to beef them up?

without snapping that 8.8? 28 splines dont hold big tires. about a 39 or 40. unless your on the highway all the time. if your thinking big, you want big to support it.

Largest I'd run on an SLA ranger is 35's, built TTB might get away with 37's.

The 8.8 will hold fine, even 28 spline.... the fronts what you have to worry about.

That's what I was worried about, the D35. That's good news, I wouldn't go bigger than 35's and 4.56 gears. Now, do they make (good) aftermarket axles/shafts/Ujoints/etc. to "beef up" the 35?

The D35 with half shafts like your's will always be weak nothing over a 33" will last locked. You can get away with a 35" tire open, but even that is pushing it with those half shafts. Last time I checked no one makes a strong half shaft for them. The rear can handle 35's as long as you don't act stupid with it.

No lockers for me, if that"s what you mean. Just looking for a little clearance but the difference from 33" to 35" tires is only an inch so I'll stick with the 33's and 4.11's. I don't plan to get crazy with it, just get in to the deer stand and back out which may or may not include muddy trails. Oh yea, I may need to escape from the angry mobs of zombies one day and I can't really get too far with a broken axle.......
