For my 01 4.0L . Using a NAPA 1372 short thing it is , can't seam to fine a bigger canister oil filter for it that has METRIC threads.

Is that a SOHC or a OHV? If it's an OHV then the FL-1A is pretty big, that's the OEM filter.

If it's a SOHC, I dunno what to tell you. The SOHC just calls for short filters.

Yep SOHC , About what I have found out only the shorties , Thanks for the reply .

Just use the Motorcraft FL-820S. If it's big enough for a 6.8L it should be just fine for a 4.0.

You can swap the filter adapter from an older 4.0 on and run the fl1a without much trouble

You know, I experimented with that possibility when I was building my OHV, because I wanted the newer adapter to run the more widely available FL820S.

It turned into a dead-end because I got impatient and could never confirm that the block side of stuff was correct.

The block sealing surface has never changed, back when I rocked a 2.9 I used a filter adapter off a 98 4.0 because I couldnt get the copper washers to seal well, I know the block side stayed the same till at least 04. The center bolt changed throughout the years but the thread and sealing surface didnt.

I know the sealing surface is the same, it was the threads I was unsure of.

I had briefly looked into putting the piece the filter threads on to into the older adapter, but obviously the threads were different.

Yeah I wouldnt think it would be that easy
