About the vehicle
Year: 1997
Make: Ford
Model: Ranger XLT 4x4
Transmission: MO5D
Mileage: 145,000
Firstly, allow me to say, I am not 100% certain this is a transmission problem, as my truck isn't starting at the moment, so I have no road data to back up this claim.
I bought this truck recently, and after driving home, it stopped running, so I replaced a few parts. After doing so, I went to start the truck to see if my problem had been fixed. Long story short, while starting the truck, my finger slipped off of the key, and I heard a distinct popping noise. Ever since then, when I try to start the truck I hear a knocking noise once every approximately 2.5 seconds. Initially, my dad thought the truck jumped time; however, my research leads me to believe that the timing chain on this truck is located on the front of the engine block, and the noise I am hearing is coming from either the rear of the engine or the transmission itself. I know that not long before I bought the truck, the master cylinder was replaced, and I was told that the clutch, pressure plate, and slave cylinder were as well (I cannot confirm this though).
Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this issue? I can only say that I hear the noise while starting, with the clutch fully depressed.
