Is there a gasket between the transmission and Transfer Case?

I am swapping out the C5 in my 84 Bronco II for a M5OD out of a 1991 Explorer. When we took the transmission out of the explorer and went to seperate the transmission from the transfer case it was sealed together with RTV. It is obviously not a part of the transmission that is exposed to the fluid since I can see a valley cut into the extension housing where it would all leak out. So that leads me to question why they ended up putting RTV to seal them together. Does Ford use a gasket between the transmission and transfer case? If so I'd like to get one before putting my 1350 onto the back of it.

mine looked like it had a gasket between it so i put blue junk in its place when i put it back together.

I used RTV on mine.

Before you trash your C5 some V8 swapper might give you something for it for the tailhousing.

my fm146 and 1350E had a gasket that was about the same thickness as a piece of notebook paper. i was paying 7-8 bucks to screwer-ship for that so i used RTV. worked fine

M5OD doesn't need anything. On trannys that do, RTV works just fine.

Just a data point for those that search; I needed a gasket for my manual transmission (parts guy said automatics took a different number) to transfer case and went to the Ford dealer in Grants Pass Oregon, USA Dec 2013.

I generally just use silicone. Sometimes I don't even bother with it. As long as none of your seals are leaking the gasket isn't really needed.

pretty sure mine has a drain channel in the bottom anyways, the gasket doesnt do anything.

Strange of me to revive an old thread, but in case anyone searches this I wanted to set the record straight.

On an A4LD, that gasket (or rtv) is needed because the extension housing of the transmission has fluid in it with no seal. This gasket is the only thing keeping that from coming out. Not sure how well they work, as mine has a small leak but I know it is coming from the transmission since my transfer case input shaft seal is good.
