Intercooler silicone couplers keep popping off or blowing up at 18 psi.

i have a problem my 94 ranger s boots keep popping off at around 15 psi. and i had a coupler blow up at 18 psi. scared the crap out of me any pointers to help keep them on ?
 
make sure your blow off valve is working properly. put some really good clamps on the couplers.
 
Take some brake clean and spray the insides of them out, and then blow them dry really well with compressed air. This will make them really tacky feeling. That's what we do at work with the intercooler piping on the 7.3 and 6.0L diesels.
 
put some marks in the pipe so that it has something to dig into take some 80 grit and make it rough where the couplers go then make sure they are good and tight
 
if the pipeing is steel (or you can weld aluminum) you can run a small bead of weld around the end of the pipe to make a lip for the hose to slip over and then use a t-bolt clamp and clamp it down. I have never had an issue on the suabrus I build running 22psi as long as there is a lip and a good clamp. And as for the blowing up, use decent quality parts, not cheap crap and it shouldn't have an issue, or make sure nothing is rubbing and cutting into it causing a weak spot.
 
bead roll, or weld a bead on the pipe is the best way to keep the pipes together and for extreme boost situations ive heard of double clamping with a long coupler and put a clamp on both sides of the bead roll
 
If it's aluminum piping you can use a pair of plyers to flare the end of the tubing. Then slide the silicone couple/elbow over the flare and clamp it behind the flare. This is what I do and mine has never had a problem holding 18 psi even without a BOV (or bypass valve for you purists).
 
Its possible there is too big of a gap between teh two pipes your are trying to couple. This would cause alot of drag allowing the pressure to build up in the little section of the coupler.
