I'm attempting to install the power steering pulley on my 4.0L. I was just wondering how far I press the pulley on. Do I go till i can't turn the nut any more or do I leave it out slightly, or do I line it up as best I can with the other pulleys on the engine.

Any help is much appreciated.

For the others, press it on until it "bottoms." You can feel it when it does.

And use an installer tool; NEVER pound on a bearing.

I know you figured this all out, but sometimes people search on these things.

In defense of pounding on bearings, you can get away with it most of the time if you don't get carried away. I am by no means suggesting it's a good idea, and if you've got a proper tool at hand or available, ue it. But in a pinch, I've pounded many bearings with no failures.

Be careful though, if the pulley gets out of alignment, it'll eat up the belt, it doesn't take much. They are unforgiving, unlike the old v-belts.
