What's the best way to get at the rivets to grind them out? Looks like its a pita no matter the way.

How much do you trim off the gas tank skid plate? I was going to cut over to hanging bracket so about an inch?

And I only have 3 of the 4 bolts. The one nearest the drive shaft and rear axle was gone. Anybody have dimensions on this bolt?

Any precautions I should take? First time using angle grinder. Kind of worried about using it in that tiny space. Was going to trim the tank shield first to get the hang of it. Got a grinding and cutting disk.

Got leather gloves and safety glasses.

Thanks guys

I can't help on the first few questions much but can say to use a face shield as well as the glasses. Especially when using the cutting disc as they explode with the slightest off angle pressure. You don't want to be picking shards of disc out of your skin. Also a good idea to wear some protection around your neck. Learned through experience.
Good luck,

Richard

I did not bother to trim the skid plate, cuz it was not necessary. I have enough clearance as is, as I showed here: http://imgur.com/a/BL7mz

The 4th skid plate bolt is same as the other 3. Or you can always use any ordinary nut & bolt if you remove the clip-on speed-nut.

x2 on the full face shield. Those sparks burn. You can always use 3/8" drill bit (after center punch) instead of grinding off the rivets. The drill may be easier to position in some places.

It is very necessary if you drive the thing off road at all...it will hit when flexed out.

I drilled out some of the rivets largest bit I have is 3/8s got it a bit off center. Got half the rivet out with a chisel and hammer. Probably going to redrill the rest of it.

I have a cathartic coat and coveralls I was going to wear. Guess ill have to get a face mask.

After the pilot hold all the bits cut through like butter. Only thing I have is a 2.5 lbs sledge and a cold chisel so its slow going.
