I have a 1999 Ranger with a 3.0L Flex-Fuel (vin "V") engine. The engine failed after the camshaft position sensor gear wore out. I found a 2001 engine at a junkyard locally. It is also a Flex-Fuel model. Should this be a direct drop-in?

Also, would I be able to drop in a non Flex-Fuel engine? Will I get check engine codes? That would be a no-go because it has to pass emissions.

should be a direct swap. I suggest using your existing wiring harness. some sensors and their pigtails may have changed...so keep that in mind.

The Ranger 3.0 was the same from 98-01. In 02 Ford changed to the plastic plenum and more changes were added.

Not true, the heads may be different on a 01 because ford changed them 7/27/99 but the motor will basically drop right in. Use your wiring harness and your motor mounts and you shouldnt have any problems and no CEL. At least my 99 doesnt have a CEL and i did the same thing.

I've got the newer style heads on my 99 3.0L. even using the old rockers and push rods. Stem height never changed.:icon_thumby:
