I have a 1993/1994 Ranger with a 4.0l in it.
Okay here's what I know I got going on, when I have both battery terminals hooked up to the battery I got no power to my EDIS-6.
I unhook the negative battery terminal and got power the EDIS-6 and the body of the truck as well.
I don't understand how I can have any power at all with only one battery terminal hooked up. no matter what.
Can anyone help me. I don't have any money and can't figure this out on my own.

where are you connecting your meter leads when you read voltage?

I think I understand your question better now that I reread it. I have dyslexia so sometimes I have to reread things more than once to get what it says.

Okay first you need to know that at this point I have unhooked the number 2 wire and the number 8 wire from the wiring clip that plugs into the EDIS-6. Those are both power wires.
So those wires are 2 of my test points. I have 3 other test points with 2 of those having 2 test modes. So I guess we can say I have 5 other test points. 1 the positive post on the battery. 2 the positive cable hooked up to the positive post.
3 the negative post on the battery. 4 the negative cable hooked up to the battery.
And the core support / body of the truck.

That’s correct. Now, when you are seeing voltage but not expecting it, where do you have your test light leads physically connected?

when I get home, I will do my best to replicate your situation and explain a few bits of basic electricity for you. I have a YouTube channel where I can upload a quick video for you. Even though my truck has a different ignition system, the principles of electricity and troubleshooting are the same.

 
With the positive cable hooked to the positive post of the battery and the negative cable unhook from the battery.
So only the positive cable is hooked up to the battery and nothing else at that point.
I then hook the alligator clip on my test light to the negative post of the battery.
Then I can touch the ice pick point of the test light to the number two wire that goes to the EDIS-6 and get power.
I can also touch it to the number 8 wire that goes to the EDIS-6 and get power.
I can also touch it to the core support and get power.
I don't understand how I'm getting power anywhere without the negative cable hooked up at all.

But if I have both positive cable and the negative cable hooked up with my test light alligator clip on the negative post I then don't have power at wire 2, 8 or the core support.

I've just noticed something new to me. I'm sure it's that I'm just now noticing it for the first time and that it's been going on the whole time.

When I have the positive cable hooked up to the positive post of the battery and right when I touch the negative cable to the negative post the E.E.C. power reply clicks.
Is this good or bad?
 
If the key is in the ON position... the relay will click.

I just test with key on. And with key off.
It clicks when the key is on. And does not click when key is off.

Ok. To answer your first question, see video HERE .

By disconnecting the negative battery cable, you confused yourself. I don't know what your overall objective is or what problem you are diagnosing. I assume it is ignition related. The more things you disconnect, the harder it is to troubleshoot because, by disconnecting a bunch of wires, you are changing the state of the circuit and introducing more "problems" that will distract you from the original issue. I would encourage you to reconnect everything and start over. Make sure the original problem has not changed. Then ask questions here where we can help guide you through the process.

You mentioned 93/94 model years. I am posting pictures here of the electrical diagrams for the 4.0l ignition system and engine controls for 1993 so you have them to refer to.
