i pulled my 2.9 out of my 1989 bronco ii to replace it with a lower mileage engine. It took me about four hours to remove the engine with no problems. I prepped the new motor by changing a few things such as fuel lines, alternator, injectors and fuel rail. I got the new motor in the truck and struggled for 3 hours to match the converter spline to the trans spline. Before i started to hook everything up i decided to crank the motor by hand, and it would not move. I pulled the motor back out and attempted it again,i just cant get it. If anyone has a suggestion please let me know. Thanks very much.

one more thing you should know, I am using a motor and torque converter from a 1989 ranger. Is the torque converter the same as the bII?

I'm not sure on whether or not there is a difference between the BII and the Ranger torque converter, but I'm pretty sure your not supposed to swap torque converters around between used transmissions. I'd try putting the BII torque converter in, and making sure it's all the way engaged before you bolt everything up. I know it's real easy to not get that last 1/4 inch of engagement.

Agreed^ use your original Torque Converter (TC) & make sure it is fully engaged (2 clunks)....unless you know it is shot.

It is maybe a good time to set the two ,TC's ,side by side and do a careful comparisons...also look closely at the pilot bearing/bushings and flex plates too of each engine.

as long as you have the engine out....can you roll it over without the spark plugs in....just trying to make sure the donor isn't locked up before hand. having the spark plugs out anyway is a good idea...helps with those final wiggle moments

maybe it would be better to install the TC on the tranny 1st and just align the stub shaft in the flex plate & pilot bearing

yes most definately put the tcon the tranny first.then turn the crankshaft to bolt the tc and match mark them first. if the crank absolutly wont turn try some atf fluid in the cylinders that will help frre the pistons but if u have to do that welll... good luck

Thanks for all the help, I put the converter on the trans first like you said and all is good know. I just need to finish hooking everything up and well see how she runs. Thanks again.
