I'm probably an idiot, but need help


Thursday night, we spent a lot of time making sure things were connected and hooked up. Then made sure things were out of the way of moving parts... Applied power, and nothing arced or sparked. So, we tried to crank it over. Spun on the first try. So, we kept cranking. And cranking... Checked for spark, had it. Pulled the hose off the inlet to the fuel filter and it sprayed when cranking. But, still no run. Yesterday, we put in a new filter (we hadn't chnaged it in almost 5 years of owning it...). And tried it again.

Cranked and cranked. Then it caught but won't stay running. A few more times, and it ran. First breathe of life from it in 9 months... We didn't try and drive it as the clutch needs fluid and to be bled, but also because we haven't moved the hardlines for the front brakes, or installed the new longer hoses either. Much less added fluid or bled them.

Get that done, tie up some last details, install and modify the inner fenders, reinstall the fenders, install the headlights and I think we are about ready for registration and safety inspection... Then swap the 31s off dor the 35s in the garage. (that might lead to thoughts of gear changes, currently we roll with 4.10s, and I imagine 4.88s would be better...)

There is light at the end of this tunnel. We even moved the Ranger out of the garage last night for a little BBQ with my local club...
 
We've been taking our time, and its been like 9 months of this project. What was supposed to be a simple cab swap turned into an ordeal of near epic proportions.

First off, the idiot part, we didn't tag or bag ANYTHING!;missingteeth;:nono:
Was supposed to be easy, right. Well, we used an 88 cab to replace the 90. EVERTHING was different. EVERYTHING. But we got a lot done anyway, and now, I'm down to just a few niggling details. My Chiltons and Haynes book SUCK! And TRS just needs more 2.3 tech in the library. (If I had started with a pristine example of 88 or 90, I would probably have documented better...) yeah, right. Something simple? We've in turn touched about everything on this truck and I want it out of my garage...

I'm thinking this goes to the MAP sensor, which was in a little different spot between cabs. And naturally, I can't find the MAP and its bracket...

I'm hoping the wiring is the same, just need to find proper end. I can't grab from the 90 cab as it is long since gone, but I think I still have the 88 harness to hack from...

I'm really hoping some of the gurus here can help... even if you must laugh :haha::haha:, please offer some help. I deserve to be laughed at.

OK,the vac line that looks broken is part of the heater control valve which is in line on the heater hoses.It connects to the valve and runs through the cab to the vac motor located behind the glove box(on my 96 at least).The one with the elbow attached could very well be the other end of the broken one cause it looks like the elbow that goes to the valve.Hope I helped and didn't confuse you
 
If you haven't already figuired this out your original 1990 cab used a vacuum actuated blend door for the HVAC system.

The 1988 does not.

The blend door on the 1988 is cable operated.

And that water line on the engine? that allows circulation across the cylinder head because the lower intake on the 2.0/2.3 engines is sometimes "wet" because that's where they located the ECT(Engine Coolant Temp) sensor on some (but not all Lima engines)

I always thought the location they used on the DPIS 2.3 engines was "neater" It is installed into an inline block installed in one of the heater hoses In that location it gets more reliable flow of warm coolant.

Thanks AD... Yes, I got everything figured out and will post clear pics soon. Last Friday we got the truck running, and this evening...

IT WAS DRIVEN AROUND THE CUL-DE-SAC!!! Still plenty to do but sure was nice to see it moving under its own power for a change. NO MORE PUSHING it around the driveway...
