Hi all, I am having problem with the starter remaining engaged after the engine starts and when I shut the ignition off the starter still turns over. I have replaced the ignition switch barrel in the colum. is it necessary to replace the commutateur/interruptor as well. If I need to where the heck is it. I have looked far and wide.

The ignition barrel is just the lock, the actual electrical switch is further down the column, It could also be caused my the solenoid sticking in. the solenoid is either on the inner fender or mounted on the starter, depending on what year and motor is in the truck.

The starting system is electronically controlled by the PCM. The PCM recognizes the signal from the ignition switch, via the transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transmission only) or the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch (manual transmission only), and provides a ground for the starter relay. The energized relay provides voltage to the starter solenoid, thereby allowing the starter motor to activate.
The relay could be sticking and it is in the panel under the hood(battery junction box)
