I came home for a while to help out around the shop and i got bored. Ive always had an idea for a grille guard that i wanted to build but have never gotten around to it, until now.

I used some scrap 3" square galvanized we had lying around and got out my welder and went to town. I dont think it turned out too bad.

I made it for my 83 250 since it was the only truck i had at the shop. I plan on making another one for my 95 150 shortly.

For one thing, that's hideous. Two, you WELDED galvanized steel...you realize how hazardous that can be, right? And three, :icon_rofl:

It may not be pretty but it will stop any deer that runs out in front of me. And if the work area is properly ventillated welding galvanized is not a problem, I've been doing it for years.

looks nice and beefy, personally i'd cap the ends though.

What would make it look like a BAMF would go to a junk yard and find some of that grating stuff they use for fireplace cover thingys and weld that in the gaps, paint that S**t black and BAM.... BAMF! lol

i am going to cap the ends. I was thinking about putting 2" tube uprights in the middle but i plan on putting some lights in there since i cant see worth a dam at night. i was going to take it back off today and bondo over the welds to make it look a little smoother and then paint it red to match the truck but it snowed here and i dont have room to pull the truck into the shop and work on it so i have to wait for a nicer day. it was nice to weld with the overhead door open yesterday but now we have snow with a bitter northwest wind.

Cold snowy my @$$.... you try changing an alternator in -60 degrees AT NIGHT IN THE DARK! cough cough wimp! cough. just put some linner gloves on and you're good.

i hear ya. we dont get quite that cold but trying to start this bitch when its below zero really sucks. cold doesnt bother me so much but its been teasing us for the past couple months. to go from 50 to 15 in 24 hours sucks.

One summer up in Fairbanks, Alaska where I grew up in the middle of summer it was like 90 degrees and then the next morning... FOOT OF SNOW! we were stunned. BTW, when it's 20 degrees or colder you're supposed to plug in your vehicle for at least 15 minutes, and winter time you should put some ISO-HEET in your tank ever 20 gallons or so. Do you guys winterize your vehicles down there?

it doesnt look bad but it could look better. unfortunately with it welded to the bumper its not gonna stop any deer that your bumper wouldnt stop

I would've designed a brush gaurd the would come out then up from the frame, and it'd come out as far as like 3 inches from the bumper, then reinforments between the brush guard and the bumper. We don't worry about skinny deer up here, we hit moose! big ones too. lol you hit a moose up here even going 30mph, you vehicle will probably be totalled for life.

we do winterize some stuff. i dont drive the truck much so this winter i really dont care. it needs a lot of work: Motor rebuild, new clutch, new suspension, make a flatbed, new fenders, new hood, pull the dents out of the roof, new windshield, and new stacks.

the guard is bolted to the bumper just like the ones people bought. i dont know if it will stop a deer but it will be interesting to see what happens.
