My credo
God is great, beer is good, and rangers are awesome!
So I found this thing.

I have no idea how it works, know nothing about it. Behind the battery, it says it's a UHF FM transceiver, kenwood ta-3312.

I have a phone and a cb in my ranger, but that's as far as I go with 2-way communication lol. I know that using one of these without a license is illegal so I haven't really touched it much lol. I thought it was like a regular walkie talkie when I seen it in the grass. I did a little research but it's all Chinese to me.

So, is this thing traceable, like will I get in trouble with it? I'll burn it if I have to jk lol. What should I do with it?

"General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a land-mobile FM UHF radio service designed for short-distance two-way communication. It requires a license in United States but some GMRS compatible equipment can be used license-free in Canada."

License runs about $65 for the year, and cost is dropping, was $90 in 2014.
May be no license required in a few more years, same as CB radio once was licensed and now no license needed.

The handheld 5watt radios have a transmit range of about 4 miles, so I doubt the FCC will swoop down on you if you did use it for transmitting, of course no license is need for receiving any radio band

Ham radio is different

The GMRS radios will also talk to the license-free FRS radios on some channels, but with more power. A GMRS license covers yourself and all of your immediate family, including children that have moved out of the home.

I just have trouble remembering my family's GMRS license number, it's much longer than my ham callsign.

That's a commercial 2-way radio, likely a public safety radio. For example, a radio a first responder would carry. Yes, you can get in trouble for transmitting with it. Yes, they can identify the radio's serial number when you transmit. Yes, they can triangulate your position easier than you think, if desired. That particular model may have GPS.

It is NOT a GMRS/FRS radio, nor could legally you use it as such.

That's a Kenwood TK-3312, I think you misread the model (there is no TA-xxx).

Don't worry. Black helicopters and men with rifles and rocket launchers are on their way to your house as we.... forum?

I guess technically we aren't speaking per se.
