I AM COMPLETELY STUMPED!!!! lets go all u master techs

Check the junk yards. They should be plentiful.
Sorry to hear its the heads man :(
At least you know where to get a good set for cheap if its not the head bolts creating the problem though :)
This time use new head bolts though ok :)

you might think i m crazy!!!

i know it sounds crazy..but ford actually had a TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) for this problem of the steam being trapped in the 4.0 ohv..
i will try to locate it...but what it comes down to.;...is for a couple hundred dollars they sell you a lower radiator hose with a T fitting in it...the T is the size of a heater hose....and connects to the heater hose next to the thermostat on the intake..trust me it will fix your problem....i did head gasket for a customer and did them twice ,,,having the heads magnifluxed...and eventually replaced them with no good results....till i installed the by-pass to the lower radiator hose...it will take some work but i m sure you can rig the hoses cheaper than the one from ford....let us know what happens next..and good luck....

ya i also found a tsb on the water pump with the same symptoms, thumping, and temp gauge fluctuating,, it said the water pump is pumping an uneven flow of coolant, what is that tsb with the T radiator hose called?

hey i just called ford about that tsb u were telling me about and that was for a 3.0 not a 4.0,, it sucks though cause a oem waterpump caost 300$

like i said...i m sure its cheaper to build the by-pass yourself....just need to T in a hose from the heater hose to the lower radiator hose..
i did find the tsb number is TSB 99-23-8
it shows it fits 95 and up...but ive also found listings otherwise...along with the same information on JASPER engines bulletin board..
the ford part number is F8PZ-8522-CA
and when i went to the dealer...they had no clue...i had to dig up all the info....so i m not surprised they are unable to help....hope all this helps you....

ya i might be able to make somthing cause the dealer said it is discontinued and they cant get it, not sure what it looks like so i have no template to go from.

sorry to jump in late, but this definitely sounds like an airlock... my mustang's temp gauge would jump from hot to cold as it was warming up, and my heater would do the exact opposite, when i was low on coolant, when i topped it up, it was fine...

I removed your phone number. If you want to give it to someone, please PM them. Keeps people from calling for other reasons...

but now who am i supposed to call for a good time?
