just found out the D35 in my 94 is a hybrid, but i have an explorer diff here, so can i just bolt in that diff and use the same shafts thats in my 94?
IIRC the only difference is the hybrid just used d28 gears so the shafts should still be the same correct?
thanks

The shafts get narrower where they go into the spider gears. The D35 shafts are bigger around than the D28. The outter end of the Hybrid shafts are full size, but the diff parts are all D28. You can bolt it in, but your shafts won't engage the splines.

So i'll need to use the inner shafts too?

Yeah. If you have a whole D-35 from that Explorer your best bet is to throw the whole thing in.

And make darn sure your gears match.

well ill be regearing front and rear anyways when i do the axle swap. so basicaly all i can keep in my 94 is the beams right
thanks

also is it possible the hybrid d35 came with 3.08s?

still have the door sticker on your truck? look up the code in the tech library. or there should be a sticker on the backside of the passenger side beam. check those two places.

i checked the door code but it says i got 3.08s but the tech library says the lowest d35s came with was 3.27 so it was a different door put on the truck. but now i know i got a hybrid so maybe these came with the 3.08s

I'd confirm that the door tag is wrong. Check the VIN on the door tag against the dash plaque. Also check the 8th digit of the VIN. You say that's a 3.0? That should be a "U". A 4.0 would be noted by an "X" in the 8th place.

According to AllanD 3.08s only came in a few 2wd 4.0 trucks. That means that the 8th digit should seal the true identity of your door.

yea i know about the digits i have a book here i can tell what every number in the vin means including the GVWR, motor, model, trim, where it was made, production number etc. im gonna go check the door tag now

found the problem. the door matches the dash vin but i took the wrong axle code for some reason. its an 86 so i got 3.73s. good thing i didnt buy those other 3.73s i was looking at thinking i would get an improvement lol

Well, that's better than having 3.08s.
