How to remove Axle intermediate shaft

01 Mazda B3000. I have to replace one of the pinion bearings so need to pull the carrier. the Axle intermediate shaft is holding it in? if it needs to be removed? any tricks??

I'm not perfectly familiar with that model of Dana35. But, if it's like the others, there is a C-clip holding the shaft in, at least on the passenger side. Drain the diff, pull the cover, remove the center cross pin. That allows you to push the shaft in far enough to see and remove the C-clip.

The c-clip holding the shaft is actually a 1/2 @$$'d one - 1/2 the time, when I pull the outer axle (part with CV joints), I get the intermediate shaft too.

If you have the axle out and cover off, a quick push with prybar (screwdriver) will pop it out.

the 1998+ front diffs use a collapsable C clip/ring in a groove in the splines. a good hard pull collapses the ring as it hits the taper in the side gears.
