how to make a replacement heat shield for pass side radius arm bushing

this is a step by step to make a replacement heat shield for the passenger side radius arm bushing

step1
open can and empty contents (can of corn or green beans work)




step 2
drill hole in center of bottom (i used 1" hole saw slightly to big but works)




step 3
cut can at diameter (line where my finger is works fine) with dremel




step 4
finished!!




should only take 5 minutes.. mine was missing from previous yahoo who changed passenger radius arm bushing didnt have time to find a replacement so i made 1

Nice idea. The passenger ra bushing heat shield are known for rusting out due to the heat cycles from the exhaust being right next to it...

Hmmm...might try that...didn't know I needed one though!

Must have been an added feature for later models because I was looking at a 96 the other day and it didn't have them either...

heat shields are usually missing due to rust or someone thinking it is a useless part when they replace passenger side rad arm bushing as in my case.

bushing was replaced on passenger but not driver side (driver side was still oem ford part the passenger side was aftermarket hard plastic type..) don't know why they didn't replace both at the same time, but from what I've found on this truck since i found it it doesn't surprise me any. (lots of loose nuts and bolts, wires rubbing in places where it would normally be fastened to something, speaker grill cut out of driver side door panel with what looked like a circular saw, and battery + wires clamped on to terminal with vise grips.) yes they were a hack true shade tree mechanic...
