i have a 85 efi 2.3 and i just bought a msd blaster 2 cylinder coil and am confused on how to hook it up i know you cut the 2 + and - and hook them up to the new terminals but on one of the 2 red wires it runs to some sort of cylinder and looks like it grounds to the original coil

That is the radio noise capacitor and it is the pos side of the coil the other wire is the neg on the coil and goes to coil neg on the TFI module. You can just disconnect the capacitor. Do you need to add a ballast resistor for the power to the coil. You need to find out if it runs on battery voltage if not you need to add a resistor to the pos side of the coil or you will burn it up in no time.

If you add a ballast resistor and you have trouble getting it started you will need to add a start circuit. From the start solenoid run a wire to the pos on the coil and put a diode in line. It will allow boosted voltage to go direct to the coil in the start position but wont allow power back to the start solenoid when you let off the key. You use the start wire or small wire from the ignition on the solenoid. Just test the power to the coil and have someone start it while your checking. You should have close to battery voltage when your cranking on the starter and around 8-9 volts when it is running.

how do i know if i need ballast
