How sensitive are 8.8" Trac Lok LSDs to tread depth?

Picked up a set of 4 wheels and tires a while back, mostly for the wheels. They came with 33x12.50r15 Godoyear MTRs with Kevlar- two are shot but two are fairly nice so it would be a shame to waste them.

However, the two nice ones have about a 50 thousands difference in tread depth (a little less than 2/32"). Would this difference toast a trac lok? I can't seem to find a spec anywhere.

I could always run them in front, but I'm under the impression that with mismatched tires the fronts should pull the rears, i.e. bigger (2 new) tires in front.

I doubt it. Normal tire rotation would expose the axle to a bigger difference between tires I would think.

No. That small of an amount will not affect it. A few pounds of pressure difference from side to side will yield a greater difference in tire diameter with weight applied. Brake drag is also another variable side to side. That being said not many people pay that much attention to tire pressure or brake adjustment, let alone .050 difference in tread depth, and have gone many thousands of miles without issue.

We have the same rear end in our Explorer. D&%* Good Rear End! IMO.

That's not nearly enough to cause issues. Should be good to go!

Thanks for the vote of confidence everyone! I figured as much, but it never hurts to double check.

Yeah, the limited slip setup is not nearly as sensitive as the f**k-@$$ AWD setup in the Explorers where 2/32" would cause issues. You are probably looking at having to have different sized tires before you would cause a problem with an LSD unit.

Different air pressure would probably have just as big an effect.
