My 83 is a 2.3 carb'd and has a computer under the hood. All of the vacuum lines that run to it are chopped off but the wires are still hooked up. I question what it actually run as there's a duraspark box under the hood too. I could just unhook the ecm and see if it'll still run but I've gotta change the flywheel and fix the bellhousing first.

You didn't say if it starts and runs. Is the duraspark hooked up or just sitting there? If it's hooked up the EEC shouldn't matter, if not then the vacuum lines make a difference. Will run like crap if the EEC is still connected. Duraspark still needs vacuum too.

How many wires are coming out of the distributor? Three wires and a vacuum advance is the duraspark distributor. You can eliminate all the electronic ignition stuff just strip the harness from the grey 8 wire connector to the alternator you should only have to cut one or two wires to eliminate the computer harness just keep the alternator, water temp and oil pressure senders connected and tidy up the wires after you pull the computer harness out. If the computer is on the passenger side apron it is the MCU system the computer for the EEC is in the cab under the kick panel on the passenger side bulkhead.

If you have a vacuum advance duraspark distributor then I would do an HEI swap it is more reliable, if you don't I would buy a vacuum advance Duraspark distributor and do it as well, lol.
Google: duraspark hei conversion

Loads of info out there.

And switch to a non-feedback carb.
Then EEC is moot point
