I recently did a r134 conversion along with a new compressor and other stuff. Anyway, there wasn't any markings on how much refigerant the a/c needed so we just put 2lbs in it, but it doesn't seem to be blowing very cold and now the compressor is starting to squel so I'm affraid there might not be enough ref. in the system. So any info would be greatly appriciated. Also the rig is an 84 B2
Thanks
Wes

Well, the should have a safety cut-out, if the system pressure is too low (not enough refer) the compressor shouldn't turn on.

Despite all my books for this truck, I can't find the charge spec, but 2 lbs sounds about right. Maybe a little low though. R-12 and R-134a won't work the same at same charge level, you gotta play with it to get it right.

Do you have a set of manifold gauges?

Did you put any PAG in?

Yeah, did put pag oil in it. Actually a friend of mine who retired as a ford mechanic put in the ref. (I just installed everything with his supervision.)

Well if you had an old pro helping you then odds are good that everything was done right. Check your pressures, make sure they are in the right range. You may have just gotten a lemon of a compressor, which would suck for you because a grenaded compressor can really mess up an A/C system.

how much

My B2 came allready switched over and the sticker the A/C company put on it says 2lb 6oz. :D hope this helps.

If you used the cans from the store they are usually only 12 oz. not a full 16oz. so by the sticker on mine you would need 38 oz of 134A
