Hotwire/Push Button Start

So the ignition cyl. on my 1993 demo derby Ranger is trashed...I can't get the key in it, and the collar on the outside (the thumb-finger-turny thing ) fell off.

The truck has had an issue with the starter since I bought it (it works once in a while,you need to push start it), so I think it is a wiring issue. I was just going to run a push button directly to the starter. I know how to wire in the push button to the starter...

But with the rest of the stuff... what do I need to do to do this?

What do I do with the ignition cyl. to make this work? How do you bypass the steering lock?

it's pretty easy ... connect two large wire on the two large terminal of the relay on the driver's side fender and let thE contact RUN AND 'neutral' transmision

Ok after reading it...it didnt really help...not really a write up. Just a guy who doesn't wanna use keys.

I pretty much know how to wire the push button (just have to figure out where and how I'm gonna run everything) My big question is how it will it work with the steering lock and all that crap (i dont really need any power to anything else...just the fuel pump, which will get wired to the battery with a toggle switch). Starting it is easy... but cant really do much with it if the steering wheel is locked...

I did a pushbutton start on my 1997 Mustang....it may or may not apply to what you want to do, but it will at least give you an idea on how to do it...
Things I needed:
1.Rocker switch
2.Wire
3.Momentary switch
4.Asst. spade connectors both male and female
Here is what I did.....
1.) Isolate the constant power wire
2.)Isolate the switched wire (cap and tape off)
3.)Isolate the wire that becomes hot when key is turned to ignition...
4.)wire the rocker switch to constant power wire
5.)run wire from rocker switch to momentary switch
6.)run wire from momentary switch to ignition switch....
TEST!



edit...just noticed you have a steering lock problem....there should be a cylinder with a metal post sticking out of it....just remove it and voila...no steering lock (you may need to remove the ignition cylinder to accomplish this.)
